Part Two: Understanding the practice of Pranayama & Falling In Love With Yoga

Wednesday, December 14, 2016 9:04:00 PM America/Los_Angeles

Pranayama, the practice of breath control, is key in yoga. It calms and keeps the body in vibrant health. Not only does it help one think rationally, but it can also relieve headaches and cure certain ailments. Soon after practicing Pranayama, I began to see the effects of breathing on my life. This principle has helped me get through tough exams but even emotionally stressful situations. Mastering an action as simple as breathing has allowed me redirect my focus and handle pressure.

Part One: Understanding the practice of Ahimsa and Satya

Monday, December 12, 2016 9:03:30 PM America/Los_Angeles

Ahimsa, the practice of nonviolence and compassion, is one of the first lessons I learned in yoga. It has taught me to work on understanding the hardships others face and abstain from judging people. I realized that there is more behind a person, than their first impression. Ahimsa helped me get on the path to being more open-minded.

Satya, the principle of truthfulness, pushes me to speak the truth, and reminds me to act with integrity. Though I have always believed in honesty, I have struggled to find a way to give a straightforward and honest opinion. Satya taught me to navigate my emotions in a scenario and respond to situations.

Discovering Yoga

Saturday, December 10, 2016 9:02:20 PM America/Los_Angeles

Take a deep breath in, and a deep breath out. In my first yoga class I felt out of place as I was gently instructed to put my hands in the middle of my chest and hum. However, looking back, I see how the lessons I have learned in yoga- specifically Ahimsa, Satya and Pranayama–have influenced who I am today. These practices are interconnected with our daily lives and teach us about who we are as a person, and how we can improve.

This two part blog post uncovers the practices that I found helpful in yoga, how I have applied them to my daily life and how I learned to appreciate yoga.

Everything Is Temporary

Thursday, June 2, 2016 4:29:00 PM America/Los_Angeles

I remember one of my first Soul Cycle classes during my senior year of college at USC. It was the week before final exams, and I was doing everything possible to procrastinate. (sorry mom and dad!) As I clipped in my bike in the dark, candlelit room, I began to think to myself. Who am I and what am I doing here?

The Other Side of Vulnerability

Monday, May 30, 2016 9:30:00 AM America/Los_Angeles

Vulnerability. We all feel it, yet we are too afraid to talk about it. The feeling of shame, rejection, not being able to get our words back, boundaries of safety, trust, pain and the list goes on. But what actually happens when you are vulnerable and open up?

Letting Go Of Fear

Wednesday, May 25, 2016 6:30:00 AM America/Los_Angeles

Often times, we are afraid to let go of fear. We want to stay in control of our anxieties, as we think of the worst. The little voices in our heads who tell us that we are not capable or will not succeed often get the best of us, and push us to master controlling the tiniest details we had not previously considered.

INTRODUCING CHROMA+BASIX

Sunday, May 22, 2016 6:53:00 AM America/Los_Angeles

Los Angeles, CA – May 2016

CHROMA+BASIX has officially launched, featuring luxury fabrics and a fresh approach to the contemporary clothing scene. The sophisticated collection of individually handcrafted, artistic washes are designed and manufactured in the heart of Los Angeles. Our mission - to inspire and empower women, one soul, one body and one city at a time.

CHROMA+BASIX founder and creative director explains, “I remember shopping after I graduated college from USC, and couldn’t find a contemporary legging line that celebrated the female body. The leggings were sheer and didn’t hold you in well enough; As women, we naturally have insecurities and vulnerabilities that no one talks about. I wanted to create a different shopping experience.”

However, fashion runs in her blood, as she grew up in her father’s premiere Los Angeles dye house, which is home to many name brands. “CHROMA+BASIX is built on self-love and female empowerment. I want women to know that they are beautiful and perfect in every single way. We are all on our own journeys and are only competing with the person we were yesterday. It’s difficult with the media, bloggers and paparazzi that criticize and tear women down constantly. I strongly believe that if we have unity and work together we can do anything. We’re here to create a movement.”

When asked about the possibility of taking the manufacturing process overseas, she says, “absolutely not. We are proud to be a local company and want it to stay that way. All components of our leggings from the cutting, sewing, dye process and screen-printing to our care labels, bags and hang-tags are made in Los Angeles. We want to support the local economy.”

Shop our website at www.chromabasix.com, and stay tuned for an upcoming Soul-Cycle charity ride this summer supporting a local women’s organization!
